SAPD chief: Woman dies after 'violent crime'

Passersby found woman in front of duplex in 5700 block of Canterbury

SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio woman in her 40s was found bleeding in her front yard Friday morning on the city's West Side, police said.

According to San Antonio police Chief William McManus, passersby found the woman in the front yard of a duplex in the 5700 block of Canterbury.

McManus said she was the "victim of a violent crime" and that there was a "violent scene inside the house."

He said the EMS units responded and took the woman to an area hospital, but she had died by the time of their arrival.

McManus said police are looking for a suspect but would not confirm the relationship between the woman and the suspect.

He said investigators have taken some witnesses downtown for questioning and is cautiously optimistic that investigators will "close this case sooner, rather than later."
