Suspected drunk driver slams into Houston ambulance, injures paramedics and baby

Houston police: Suspect ran red light, slammed into ambulance

HOUSTON - Houston police say a man who may have been drunk ran a red light and slammed into an ambulance early Monday, injuring the two paramedics and an infant.

Crash scene investigators say the suspect was driving a 6-month-old baby at the time, KSAT sister station KPRC-TV reported.

"Two of the paramedics were transported with minor injuries, the other vehicle had a male occupant driving and a 6-month-old baby. The baby was taken to Southwest Memorial for minor injuries," said Sgt. S. Sorge with Houston police.

The ambulance was not responding to a call and was headed back to the station at the time of the crash. It took rescue crews a while to pull the paramedics out of the flipped truck.

The suspect was arrested on scene and faces felony DWI charges.

At this point it's unclear if the infant is the son of the man arrested overnight.

The baby and the two paramedics were all rushed to local hospitals and expected to make a full recovery.
