Woodlawn Lake Park up for America's Favorite Park

City could get $100,000 grant from Coca-Cola

SAN ANTONIO - After more than 100 years, Woodlawn Lake Park has continued to be a popular Westside hang out for residents.

Whether it's playing basketball or kids playing on the playground, the 62 acre park has always had a lot of amenities for people to enjoy.

Now the San Antonio park is in the running to be voted as America's favorite park.

Assistant Parks and Recreation Manager Michael Baldwin said, “ this community in general is very active.”

That’s why out of San Antonio’s 250 parks, Woodlawn Lake Park was chosen for the national park contest.

Plus, it has a lot of amenities that other parks don’t offer.

Michael Baldwin from city's parks and recreation department passed out flyers.

It let people know how to vote for Woodlawn lake park by checking in with foursquare or map-my-fitness apps.

Winning means improvements to current amenities.

"We do fitness in the park classes out here people come out here and walk around the trail, you name it people are out here doing it,” said Baldwin.

If Woodlawn Lake Park wins, it will receive a $100,000 recreational grant from Coca-Cola.

Some avid park goers already have ideas on how the money should be spent.

"All the kids would have a lot more room to play more playgrounds ...it would be nice for it to be level and not fall in the water,” said park goer Gilbert Sams.

"Currently we stand in 22nd place so we really need the support of people around town to get us up there in the top, " said Baldwin.
