Man dies after crashing into vehicle at intersection
2 witnesses say man drove at high rate of speed, says police
SAN ANTONIO - A man is dead after police say he crashed into the rear of a vehicle stopped a red light Friday morning at the intersection of Perrin Beitel and NE Loop 410.
San Antonio police said the man was driving southbound on Perrin Beitel in his gray 2006 Toyota Scion and approached the signal light at NE Loop 410.
Two witnesses told police they saw the man driving at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic.
Armando Acevedo, 41, was driving in the second lane in his white 2009 Chevrolet Express Van, and Michael Anthony Hunter, 56, was driving his beige 1998 Ford "F" Series pickup truck in the first lane.
Police said Acevedo and Hunter were both stopped at a red light at the intersection.
The man crashed into the rear passenger side of Hunter's truck and then crashed into the rear of Acevedo's van, San Antonio police said.
Acevedo told police he was waiting at the stop light and was rear ended by the man's Scion, sending Acevedo's van across the intersection where it came to a stop under NE Loop 410.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and used the Jaws of Life to extract the man from his vehicle.
EMS transported the man to SAMMC hospital where police said he was pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m. Friday. He has not been identified by police at this time.
Acevedo and Hunter told police they were not injured. Police said they refused EMS.
