Motorcyclists arrested for driving recklessly on several highways

San Antonio police say motorcyclists performed stunts on highways

SAN ANTONIO - A group of motorcyclists are now behind bars after police caught them driving recklessly on several different highways and performing stunts on Sunday afternoon.

"There was a very large group of motorcycles obstructing the highway," said Sgt. Greg Brooks with the San Antonio Police Department. "No vehicles could go by. (They were) doing stunts, riding wheelies.

An officer in an unmarked vehicle captured it all on video and followed the group to Brackenridge Park, where nine of the riders were arrested.

However, some members of the motorcycle group said they had gotten about 75 riders together on Sunday for a memorial ride to honor Scotty Schroeder, who was killed on his bike earlier this month.

"He passed away riding his bike on 410 and Ingram," said Destiny Dinton, a rider in the group. "It was just a little memorial, coming to ride out for him. He loved to ride bikes and we are showing support."

"We were just riding for a memorial ride for a fellow rider and the other riders," said John Faircloth, a rider. "And, this is how it turns out."

However, police said the memorial ride itself was not the problem, just the reckless driving.

"This isn't safe," said Brooks. "It's not the right thing to do to the rest of the motoring public. We're having a lot of guys getting killed in this unsafe behavior. Our job is to make the streets safe and that's what we are doing today."

One of the nine riders was arrested for reckless driving and the others for obstructing the highway.
