Suspected Zetas cartel member caught after prison escape

Gustavo Rodr­iguez-Cost­illa, 24, arrested by Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Eagle Pass


EAGLE PASS, Texas - A Mexican prison escapee has been captured in Eagle Pass by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

A U.S. Marshals press release stated Gustavo Rodriguez-Costilla, 24, was arrested last Friday.

Authorities allege Rodriguez-Costilla escaped from a Mexican prison while facing charges for possession of firearms and grenades

Last Friday, task force officers determined Rodriguez-Costilla was hiding at a residence in in Eagle Pass.

Task force officers entered and located Rodriguez-Costilla hiding in a bedroom closet.

The press release stated Rodriguez-Costilla struggled with task force officers, but was quickly subdued and placed under arrest.

Rodriguez-Costilla was booked into the Maverick County Jail without bond.

Rodriguez-Costilla had been on the run since last September. He along with 131 other suspected members of the Zetas Cartel escaped from a prison in Piedras Negras, Mexico while awaiting sentencing, the U.S. Marshals press release stated.
