Boys, ages 12 & 13, caught in stolen cell phone ring bust

SAN ANTONIO - A pair of minors were suspected of taking advantage of tourists downtown.

They were taken into custody on Friday night after officers found in their possession dozens of stolen cell phones.

Police said the incident happened at the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel, which is located in the 100 block of Villita.

Some witnesses reported seeing a 12-year old and a 13-year-old handing out fliers there.

When the 12-year-old- took off running, it caught the attention of some officers patrolling the area.

The officers chased the 12-year-old all the way to Navarro street, right off of Houston, where they took him into custody.

Police said when the suspect passed a Starbucks, he tossed a back pack in the shop.

Officers retrieved that back pack later and found the fliers.

Police also found dozens of stolen cell phones. It's not clear how the two got a hold of the phones.

Police also have the 13-year-old in custody and an adult male, who officers suspect also had something to do with the stolen cell phones.
