Work release inmate disappears from Bexar County detention facility
BCSO: Armando Vasquez on work release until failed drug test
SAN ANTONIO - A Bexar County work release inmate is on the run after he simply walked out of the jail's work release facility early Sunday morning.
The sheriff's office says 34 year-old Armando Vasquez, Jr. had failed a drug test, and detention officers worked on papers to revoke his work release around 8 a.m. Sunday.
But Vasquez simply walked out with other inmates leaving for work release, though he was no longer authorized to do so.
A sheriff's spokesman says Vasquez was convicted for violating a protective order, but was sentenced by a judge to the work release program.
The spokesman says Vasquez had accumulated enough time for good behavior that he'd earned early release from his sentence. That could have come as soon as Tuesday.
A warrant was issued for Vasquez's arrest and he will have to go before a judge again to be re-sentenced if he is caught.
