Neighbors anxious, worried about safety after apparent homicide
San Antonio police awaiting autopsy results
SAN ANTONIO - Safety has become a concern for some people who live in the Woodhill Apartments after the discovery of woman’s body in one unit of the complex, located in the 4900 block of Woodstone Drive.
San Antonio police said a maintenance man who stopped by the ground floor apartment to fix an air conditioner Monday afternoon made the disturbing discovery.
As of noon Tuesday, they were still withholding the name of the dead woman, pending notification of family.
Police were also waiting for an autopsy to be performed to determine how she died, although they said there were signs indicating she was the victim of a homicide.
Neighbors who live in the complex, meanwhile, had questions of their own, specifically regarding who might have killed her and why.
"Nobody deserves something like that,” said Paula Van Linder, whose apartment building faces the homicide scene. “All I could do is just wish her the best. She's in a better place."
Van Linder said she came home from work Monday night and noticed the commotion, police officers and patrol cars all over the parking lot.
“It was overwhelming. And when they wheeled her out, all I could do was say, 'God bless you,” she said.
Vivian Fultz said she had only seen her neighbor in passing, and hadn’t had time to really get to know her.
“I know she’s a new neighbor to this community,” she said.
Both Fultz and other neighbors said the victim had moved into the complex just a month or two ago, and appeared to live alone.
With this type of trouble striking so close to home, some of them said they fear for their own safety now.
Some said they are double-checking their doors to make sure they’re locked.
"We all have to be cautious and careful with the company that we keep,” Fultz said. “And we have to, in communities like this, just remember that we are neighbors."
