Gunshot victim latest crime in violent streak for SA

Man in his 20s found dead underneath I-35 South near AT&T Center Parkway

SAN ANTONIO - Police said a man found dead underneath Interstate 35 South near the AT&T Center Parkway is likely the victim of a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

The man, who police have not yet identified, is in his mid 20s, according to preliminary police reports.

He was found by a couple of people who had left a nearby fast food restaurant around 4:30 a.m.

The victim is the latest in a string of violent crimes in San Antonio.

A 19 year-old pregnant woman was killed last week on the east side, and earlier this week, a man was killed on Woodstone.

Those crimes came after two murders late last month.

“Sometimes crimes can come in bunches rather than be spread out, but we don’t think the crime has been any worse this year than in year’s past,” said San Antonio police spokesman Roger Zuniga.

The numbers, at least in regards to murder, seem to support that. The city has recorded 34 murders so far this year, as compared to 54 during the same time period in 2012.
