San Antonio man sentenced in killing of girlfriend's baby
Julio Crawford gets 80-year prison sentence
SAN ANTONIO - A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 80 years in prison Thursday for the killing of his live-in girlfriend's baby boy.
Jurors deliberated for three hours before returning punishment against Julio Crawford, who could have been eligible for probation if he had received a sentence of 10 years or fewer.
Crawford pleaded guilty and admitted in court that he had a "temper tantrum" before he beat 14-month-old Israel Perez when the baby cried at the couple's West Side duplex in 2011.
The baby died two days later of severe brain trauma.
