Man struck by car, critically injured
Driver says she looked away to check on broken foot rest, struck Rene Davila, 30
SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio man was severely injured when he was struck by a car as he was standing near his truck Friday morning.
According to police, Rene Davila, 30, suffered severe trauma to his legs after being hit by a gray 2003 Toyota Corolla around 8 a.m. on Dominion Drive, just west of Staffordshire Drive.
Police said Davila was standing behind his parked truck on the north curb line of Dominion Drive when he was hit.
The driver of the Corolla told accident investigators that her left foot rest broke off while she was driving and when she looked down quickly to see what happened, she accidentally veered off to the right and struck Davila.
Police said the driver of the Corolla remained at the scene of the accident and provided aid to Davila. Police said she did not show any signs of intoxication.
Davila was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
