Border Patrol agents seize more than $8 million in marijuana
Marijuana seizures made in La Rosita, Sarita
EDINBURG, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents in South Texas confiscated more than $8.4 million worth of marijuana in multiple seizures from Tuesday through early Thursday morning.
Agents made the largest bust in La Rosita on Tuesday when they spotted a vehicle being loaded with marijuana, a Border Patrol press release stated.
The vehicle was followed to a house in the area where agents seized more than 2,800 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested four suspected smugglers and seized two vehicles.
Another large seizure occurred Wednesday at the Sarita Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77 North after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents of narcotics in a tractor-trailer during an inspection. Agents found more than 1,700 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trailer, the release stated.
Agents at the Sarita Checkpoint made an unrelated seizure early Thursday morning that netted more than 1,800 additional pounds of marijuana. Additional seizures pushed the total amount of marijuana seized to more than 10,000 pounds.
In addition to the seizures, the body of an illegal immigrant was found on a ranch near Falfurrias on Wednesday. The cause of death appeared to be heat related, the release stated.
