Local vet honored by client

Dr. Thomas E. Vice now has welfare fund at San Antonio Area Foundation named for him

SAN ANTONIO - One of San Antonio’s more prominent veterinarians is being honored by one of his clients.

Dr. Thomas E. Vice now has a welfare fund at San Antonio Area Foundation named for him.

“I was just overwhelmed by it all, I really was," said Vice.

“I think we should honor people when we have the opportunity to do so," said Felecia Glenn-McElrath, who set up the fund. “Dr. Vice has built-in appeal. Everybody loves him (and) everybody knows what he has done, not just for pets, but for humane education."

Vice has taken care of McElrath’s pets since 1986.

He has been taking care of San Antonio-area family pets for 56 years.

He has not only been a doctor but also an educator when it comes to caring for pets.

He has been a staple on Good Morning San Antonio. He is also an advocate for making San Antonio a no-kill city.

“This is one of my passions," Vice said. “We're up to 70 percent-plus adoption rate, which is just remarkable. We have to get to 90 to become a no-kill city and hopefully, this fund will help us do that."
