Bexar County neighborhood takes stand against crime

Members gather to patrol streets, work to deter crime

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - Dozens in one Bexar County neighborhood are taking a stand against crime.

Bexar County Sheriffs Office Cellular on Patrol members gathered at Redbird Ranch on Saturday night to patrol the streets and to send a message to neighbors that they are watching.

Bexar County Sheriffs Office Cellular on Patrol is a countywide organization that works closely with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and the HOA groups throughout the county to deter crime.

On Saturday, COP members drove their marked vehicles with their lights on around the neighborhood from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

"Many members will be converging here at Redbird Ranch to patrol streets and to send a message to those that may be up to no good that our community is not a crime friendly community," said Gilbert Saenz with the Bexar County Sheriffs Office Cellular on Patrol-West.

For Saturday's initiative, members from different neighborhoods were all at Redbird Ranch, but during the week, the trained members work in pairs, driving around their own communities and when they see suspicious activity, they report it to the Sheriff's department.

Saenz said crime is everybody's responsibility and if you see something that you should report, you should call the Bexar County Sheriff's non-emergency number at 335-6000.
