Body found at northeast side apartment complex

Police investigating death as homicide

SAN ANTONIO - A man’s body was found inside the Banyan Tree Apartments complex Sunday morning on the city’s northeast side.

San Antonio Police are investigating the man’s death as a homicide.

“We woke up in the morning and he was laying down dead outside,” said Patricia Martinez.

The body was found near the apartment’s mailboxes.

Police have not released the man’s identity, but residents said his name was Daniel. Investigators believe he was in his 50s.

Police would not release many details of the man’s death, but residents reported hearing gunfire early Sunday morning.

“Around four, I heard a lot of gun shots, but I was asleep and didn’t think anything of it,” said resident Destiny Travieso.

Multiple residents said it is not uncommon to hear gunshots near the complex.

The man lived by himself and his neighbors said he was well-known around the complex.

“He doesn’t bother anybody. He’s the nicest man out there,” said Martinez. “All he does is go to work, come home, and sing his guitar.”

Police have not identified any suspects in the case.
