Nationwide search underway for suspect in local beating

Brandon Gower, 24, accused of beating 72-year-old Guadalupe County man

SAN ANTONIO - The search for Guadalupe County beating suspect Brandon Gower, 24, has gone nationwide now that local authorities have concluded he, most likely, has left the area.

Guadalupe County sheriff’s investigators have been looking for Gower, a transient from Tennessee, since last Monday, shortly after a 72-year-old man was found suffering from injuries from a beating.

"What we think happened is the victim was looking for a day laborer, somebody to do some odd chores. And what happened after that, we don't know,” said Sgt. Craig Jones with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones said the victim’s wife found him somewhere on Creekway Lane, where he owns several rental properties.

He said somehow Gower made his way from the remote neighborhood off Schneider Road to a truck stop at Interstate 10 and Highway 123.

Surveillance cameras inside Jud’s Travel Center captured images of Gower, wearing a mustache and dressed in a brown T-shirt with a giant face of a cat on it, Jones said.

Investigators believe Gower boarded a Greyhound bus there, bound for Amarillo.

“I don't know if he made it to Amarillo, but we do believe he went towards Amarillo,” Jones said. “Our working knowledge is that he may be trying to hitchhike back to Tennessee.”

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office has appealed for help in locating Gower through the local media.

Once it became apparent that the suspect has left town, they began to spread the word even farther.

“We’ve reached out to other agencies,” Jones said. "Loose information has come in that he may be toward the coast, he may be toward Dallas-Ft. Worth."

While Gower’s final destination isn’t known for sure, investigators want to make sure his last stop will be jail.

Jones said Gower has a distinctive mole on his left jawline, and two unusual tattoos on his right arm (seen below).

A tattoo on his upper arm appears to be triangular in shape, while the one on his lower arm is an incomplete image.

Anyone with information on Gower’s whereabouts or about the case, in general, is asked to call the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office at 830-379-1224, or Crime Stoppers at 830-303-TIPS (8477).
