Suspect arrested for beating death in New Braunfels

Police: Victor Xavier Sanchez, 18, charged with murder

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the beating death of a New Braunfels man on Monday night.

Victor Xavier Sanchez, 18, has been charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old James Edward Drury.

New Braunfels police responded to a call Monday just after 11 p.m. for a man that was unconscious and bleeding from the back of his head in a parking lot on Leibscher Drive. Police then found Drury with injuries to his face and head.

Witnesses said Drury had gotten into a verbal confrontation with several men in a black Dodge pickup truck while in the parking lot of Prince Solms Park.

They added that Drury was struck in the face by someone in the passenger seat of the truck, which caused him to fall backwards and hit his head on the pavement.

Drury was transported to Christus Santa Rosa New Braunfels Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.
