Ready, set, shop! Texas tax-free weekend starts
No sales tax on school supplies, most clothing, shoes under $100
SAN ANTONIO - With the tax-free weekend starting Friday, many parents are ready to shop and save.null
School supplies, as well as most clothing and shoes under $100 can be purchased without paying local or state sales taxes, according to the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
Eligible items are listed on the Texas Tax Holiday website.
“Shoppers are expected to save an estimated $78.9 million during the sales tax holiday,” said a spokesman for Comptroller Susan Combs.
However, many parents on Thursday were already buying what their children will need at the Super Target at I-10 & Loop 410, trying to avoid the crowds.
“I don’t think it’s worth it. I think they have better sales before the tax-free weekend, and so I try to stock up first,” said Ana Acevedo, a mother of two.
“I don’t want to be with all the people fighting over things, so I want to get my shopping out of the way,” said
Crystal Sarabia, as she filled her cart with a variety of items from Crayolas to clothing items.
“It is crazy and sometimes you don’t get to get everything you need,” said Celia Hercules.
Hercules said she got a jump start this year because her daughter is off to college, plus she has to buy school supplies for her children enrolled in elementary, middle and high schools.
