Suspected street racer causes chain reaction crash

1 injured, 1 arrested in street racing accident in northwest San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - A street racing accident in northwest San Antonio sent one person to the hospital and another to jail.

San Antonio police said the chain reaction crash happened around midnight Monday at Loop 1604 and Bandera Road.

According to police, several witnesses reported seeing two drivers racing when one ran a red light at Bandera Road and smashed into a compact car with three people inside. The car then struck a small SUV with one occupant.

Paramedics transported a passenger inside the car to the hospital. Their condition was unknown Tuesday morning. No other injuries were reported.


The suspected street racer, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.

There was no word on the whereabouts of the other racer.
