An 18-year-old was recovering from a bullet wound after he was shot at in his car on the West Side Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sutton and Zachry.

According to police investigators, the victim was driving in his gray Honda Civic when he was followed by a red Chevy Blazer.

Witnesses told police a passenger in the Blazer fired shots at the Civic and took off.

The teen driver was hit once in the back and was transported to University Hospital in serious condition.

A source reported the teen was paralyzed and the shooting was likely related to gang violence.

The shooting happened just down the street from Longfellow Middle School.

SAISD police officers responded to the shooting and talked with SAPD officers, who determined the school was not facing any threats, so no lockdown was ordered.
