Fire torches truck, spreads to two San Antonio homes

Arson investigating cause of fire in north San Antonio

A fast-moving fire in north San Antonio forced six to eight people out of their homes early Wednesday morning

San Antonio fire crews responded to the fire around 3:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Howard Street between San Pedro and McCullough Avenue.

Fire officials said the fire started in pickup truck that was parked under a carport, but quickly spread to another truck and the home.

Flames also damaged a neighboring home and fire officials were forced to evacuate everyone inside both houses.

Fire officials say there was a propane tank in the carport that helped fuel the flames, but they were able to get it under control.

A cause for the fire was unknown, but the arson unit was called to investigate. Fire officials have not released total damage estimates.

The American Red Cross is assisting the families affected by the fire.
