Consumer Reports counts food court calories

Cinnabon Classic has 880 calories

Just in time for holiday shopping, Consumer Reports hit the malls to count calories at the food courts.

One Cinnabon Classic is loaded with 880 calories, roughly half of what a person should consume in an entire day.

At Starbucks, a grande Java Chip Frappuccino with whole milk and whipped cream has 460 calories and 18 grams of fat.

At Dunkin Donuts, a blueberry muffin may sound healthy, but it  has 460 calories, too.

"If you're just having a snack, you should think about just having about 150 calories," said Consumer Reports' Maxine Siegel.

Options include Doc Popcorn's caramel corn. One cup as 130 calories.

A better beverage choice is the light banana berry smoothie at Jamba Juice. It has 170 calories and zero fat.

A cup of lowfat frozen yogurt can be a calorie minefield if you top it with peanut butter cups and M&M candy.   Fruit toppings are a much healthier choice.
