Operation Hog Trap targets Bandido motorcycle club

2-month effort nets gang members, drugs, cash, weapons

Known for their Harley “hogs,” members of the Bandido motorcycle club are among the 250 arrests made during Operation Hog Trap over the past two months.

They now face a variety of federal and state charges, according to SAPD’s gang unit and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

They said  “Hog Trap” was their latest effort to impact violent gang activity in San Antonio.

“This is not the first time we’ve done an operation like this and it’s certainly not going to be the last,” said U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte.

Almonte said among the “significant players” arrested was Jorge Rivera, the president of the local northwest chapter of the Bandidos.

He said Rivera’s arrest led to others involved in trafficking.

Almonte said those were “either supplying the Bandidos motorcycle gang or also distributing at the street level.”

SAPD Chief William McManus said the Bandidos are known for their ties to property crimes, narcotics, firearms trafficking, robberies, assaults and murder.

At a news conference Friday at the Public Safety Headquarters were photos of those arrested or wanted fugitives, the $254,000 in drugs and bundles of cash totaling $82,000 that were seized, along with many of the 45 weapons that were also seized.

Speaking about the officers who were involved, McManus said, “They risked their lives in the operations like this because of the people they are working against.”

Almonte said his deputy marshals did their part during the partial government shutdown.

“They all worked without pay for a couple of weeks and never once did they ever complain,” Almonte said. “They did a really good job. I’m very, very proud of them.”
