Woman struck, killed in south San Antonio identified

Victim identified as Mary Garcia, 68

A woman who died after she was struck by a pickup truck Saturday night on the South Side has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

Mary Garcia, 68, was walking on Moursund Boulevard near West Ansley Street around 8 p.m. when she was fatally struck attempting to cross the street, police said.

Investigators said the driver initially did not realize he had struck Garcia and drove away.

"He thought he hit a mailbox and realized he hit a female, and came back to the scene," said Sgt. Jesse Garcia with SAPD. "It is real dangerous and dark out here. Unfortunately, he did not see her."

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not expected to face any charges, police said.
