OLLU administrator's racial remarks posted in YouTube video

Student referred to as 'angry black woman'

SAN ANTONIO - Audio recordings posted on YouTube depict an Our Lady of the Lake administrator making disparaging remarks about minorities.

The recordings are of Dr. Bob Bisking, OLLU's executive vice president and chief academic officer.

In one recording, Bisking is heard referring to a student.

"The angry black woman, so, she's coming in," Bisking is heard saying on the recording.

He is also heard talking about faculty members.

"The brand new African American Dean and the Latino Department Chair, tell the minority female you ain't worth a (expletive),” Bisking said in the recording.

Bisking is listed on OLLU’s website as a retired Naval officer who came to OLLU in 2004.

In an emailed statement, OLLU President Sister Jane Ann Slater referred to the audio as “illegal recordings” but wrote that there are "words and expressions in these recordings that are unacceptable, that do not reflect our Core Values."

Bisking wrote: “My choice of words was unprofessional and inappropriate. I am deeply sorry for the hurt they have caused this institution that I love. I have asked the campus community for forgiveness.”

Joshua Moten is an OLLU Freshman, describing himself as the only black student in the Special Education program.

"As a black man, I feel like I'm going to make it,” Moten said. “I mean, you can't judge us by the color of our skin. I mean, that's kind of crazy that something like that would come out of his mouth."

Moten, however, stopped short of saying Bisking should be fired.

“Some action should be taken on this, yes,” Moten said.

Moten also said felt less wanted at the university after hearing about the audio recordings.

Raul Bermudez, a freshman Kinesiology major, said he was surprised when he heard the news.

"Things like that shouldn't be happening," Bermudez said. “That's unprofessional but I mean I think that at a really good institution like Our Lady of the Lake I think that that shouldn't be happening.”

Police are now investigating the recordings.
