Rosary held for San Antonio mother who saved kids from oncoming car

Sharon Ledesma to be laid to rest Wednesday

A special rosary service was held Tuesday night for a San Antonio mother who gave her life to save her children.

Friends and family of 28-year-old Sharon Ledesma gathered at Ortiz Mortuary in the 3100 block of Culebra to pray for the young mother of three.

Last week, Ledesma was walking two of her children across the 3900 block of Culebra to the corner of Consuelo when a car struck all three of them.

Officials said Ledesma pushed her kids forward in an attempt to get them out of harm's way.

The driver who struck Ledesma and her children told police she did not see them crossing the street and was not charged.

Ledesma's 8-year-old daughter suffered a fractured pelvis and her 11-year old son has a broken collarbone.

Ledesma also left behind a 3-year-old son who was not with them at the time of the accident. Her family said she will be laid to rest Wednesday.
