Lightning strike sparks house fire in NW Bexar County

Home in Fair Oaks Ranch struck by lightning

A lightning strike is to blame for a house fire in far northwest Bexar County.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 3 a.m. in the 30700 block of Keeneland in Fair Oaks Ranch.

Lightning struck a large two story home and firefighters from several different volunteers fire departments worked to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews remained on scene nearly three hours after the fire to check on hot spots.

Fire officials said smoke from the fire drifted and caused crews to think there was another fire on Rolling Acres Trail, but nothing was found at that location.

Everyone inside the home on Keeneland got out safe. Fire officials said the lightning strike caused major damage to the home, however, damage estimates have not been made available.
