Rush on to find last-minute Halloween costumes
Dia de los Muertos ‘in’, sexy costumes ‘out’
As we approach the final hours before Halloween, those in need of a costume are heading to Starline Costumes, the largest costume shop in the city. The shop, which has been in business for over 40 years, specializes in theatrical costumes, mascots, and custom-made pieces.
“We have pretty much anything everybody needs, and if we don't, we try and help them find it, or make it,” said store owner, Julie Moore Keck. “We have been busy, but it's fun.”
Keck said she normally has 11 full-time staff members, but in the days leading up to Halloween, a total of 25 staff members are required to help with the increase of customers.
While all types of costumes are being sold, Keck said she’s seen an increased interest in “Dia de Los Muertos” masks this year, along with Bettlejuice costumes, while sexy or skimpy get-ups are not as popular as years past.
“It’s a lot more tasteful, hemlines have dropped, so in times of uncertainty in our economy, hemlines drop. It's just what happens,” Keck said. “And in times of trouble with our economy and our government, superheroes emerge.”
Starline Costumes will be open Halloween Day, from 11am-5pm.
