SAPD officer shot in brutal fight with suspect

SAPD Chief: 1 officer wounded in leg, suspect shot in chest

SAN ANTONIO - A fight with a suspect ended with one SAPD officer shot, another beaten unconscious and the suspect shot in the abdomen.

The trouble started at a Christus Santa Rosa emergency center in the 11500 block of NW Military just after 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police Chief William McManus said officers responded to a call for a man refusing to leave the clinic. As officers tried to escort that man out, he began to fight them.

They used tasers attempting to subdue the man, but they had no effect.

McManus said the man beat Officer Yvette Meade unconscious and fought with Officer Roberto Aguilar over the his gun.

McManus said during the fight, the suspect apparently fired a shot, hitting Aguilar in the leg.

Police said Meade regained consciousness and, realizing the suspect was about to get control of her partner's gun, she fired, hitting the man once in the abdomen.

Both Aguilar and the suspect are now at University Hospital. Meade received treatment for her facial laceration.

McManus said the shooting incident is now under investigation.

The suspect has not yet been identified.
