Bexar ME identifies student as Canyon HS student Logan Davidson, 15
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A New Braunfels teen beaten in a fight at Canyon High School died at the hospital, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
The teen has been identified by the Bexar County medical examiner as 15-year-old Logan Davidson.
The Bexar County medical examiner said Davidson was pronounced dead Wednesday at University Hospital at approximately 4:03 p.m.
Davidson and another 15-year-old sophomore got into a fight Tuesday morning at Canyon High School, and Davidson was reportedly knocked unconscious.
He was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital in serious condition.
The other student involved was taken into custody and was being held in the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center.
He was charged with aggravated assault, but authorities have not said if those charges would be upgraded.
Classmates described Davidson as a well-liked football player, and said he got into a fight over a small act.
"He was throwing paper at the kid that punched him, but it's no reason to die," said junior Pete Morales.
"He could have went to the counselor or something to tell them about the student messing with him. I just think it's sad that he actually died," said senior Austin Lee.
Comal ISD Superintendent Andrew Kim issued the following statement Thursday morning in regard's to the incident:
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our Canyon High School students involved in Tuesday’s altercation. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of both students involved and we will all work to protect their privacy during this very difficult time. Campus and district counselors will be available throughout the week at CHS to assist students and staff process this shocking and tragic event."
Canyon High School will hold a private, student-led candlelight vigil in the courtyard by the school's cafeteria Thursday evening.
"Logan would be impressed," said his uncle on Thursday. "There are literally thousands and thousands of people that are emailing how much they loved him and are praying for him."
A moment of silence will be observed before Canyon's bi-district playoff game against San Antonio Reagan at Heroes Stadium on Friday night.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral arrangements for Davidson are currently pending.
