San Antonio police officer shoots, kills man

SAPD: Man threatened police officers with butcher's knives

A man was shot and killed after San Antonio police say he threatened officers on the Southeast Side Wednesday evening.

The officer-involved shooting happened around 7 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 6700 block of South New Braunfels.

Authorities say two officers responded to a domestic violence call when they were confronted by a 53-year-old man.

Police said the suspect was carrying three butcher's knives and asked officers if they were ready to die.

It is unclear how the shooting unfolded, but SAPD Police Chief William McManus said one of the officers fired his gun and hit the man in the chest. The man was taken to the hospital but later died.

The names of the officers involved have not been released. Authorities did confirm that the officer who fired his weapon was a 15-year-veteran of the force.

That officer will be put on administrative duty while the officer-involved shooting team investigates.
