Vigil held for New Braunfels student who died after school fight
Logan Davidson, 15, was student at Canyon High School
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - New Braunfels residents gathered Thursday evening to remember a Canyon High School student who died after he was beaten in a school fight Tuesday morning.
Logan Davidson, 15, passed away Wednesday at University Hospital from injuries he suffered during the fight. Residents placed dozens of ribbons in downtown New Braunfels in memory of Davidson and Canyon High School held a private, student-led candlelight vigil in the courtyard by the school's cafeteria Thursday evening.
Logan's uncle, Mitchell Davidson, spoke to KSAT about their family's loss. "You think about an early life, a mid-life and then the treasures you've collected along the way. We're in early life and there's nothing after this for Logan, and I think that's the saddest thing there is," Mitchell Davidson said.
He added Logan's love and passion for life was unlike any other. "Picture a ball of energy. A little puppy you can't slow down, he never stopped. That was our boy Logan," Mitchell Davidson said. "The outpouring of love and support, and just a camaraderie we got from everybody, it's been amazing."
The 15-year-old student accused of fighting with Logan was being held at the Guadalupe County Detention Center Thursday night and has been charged with aggravated assault. It was unknown whether those charges would be upgraded.
Classmates described Davidson as a well-liked football player, and said he got into a fight over a small act. "He was throwing paper at the kid that punched him, but it's no reason to die," said junior Pete Morales. "He could have went to the counselor or something to tell them about the student messing with him. I just think it's sad that he actually died," said senior Austin Lee.
A moment of silence will be observed before Canyon's bi-district playoff game against San Antonio Reagan at Heroes Stadium on Friday night. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral arrangements for Davidson are currently pending. Several memorial funds have been established for both students involved in the fight. You can make a donation by clicking here and to the Cougar Compassion Fund.
