Local restaurants, hotels get ready for runners
2013 San Antonio Rock N' Roll Marathon gets underway this weekend
Tens of thousands of runners and their fans are making their way to San Antonio, and local businesses say they're ready for them.
"We're basically marathon central. It ends right at the Alamodome, which is literally two blocks away from us," said Kiya Safai, the regional director of platinum hospitality at Best Western Suites. "We have a lot of runners and their families staying with us, so it's easy access to the Alamodome. They can stop in right after the run, take a quick shower and get dressed, and hit the road again," said Safai.
Some local restaurants are even offering special menus for runners, so they can "carb up" the night before the race.
"Everybody wants fresh pasta, which gets you all that energy before the run," said Sierra Segura, the general manager of Tre Trattoria downtown.
Tre Trattoria is offering a special Prix-fixe "Carb Up" menu for $29.95 a person. They're also offering a free appetizer for runners who bring their race numbers after the race.
They say they have about a hundred reservations for Saturday night.
"It seems like there's more people signing up and it seems like the cold weather's not going to stop anybody," said Segura.
The race begins on Cherry Street, hitting all the points of downtown, but now includes the Pearl Brewery.
"We are at the three-mile marker so we expect a lot of people a lot kids that are going to stop here to come in with their parents have brunch," said Christopher Ware, the bar manager at Arcade Midtown Kitchen at the Pearl.
The restaurant is offering a 10% discount for runners that bring their medal. They'll also receive a complimentary mimosa.
