Handyman accused of stealing gun, watch from home
Darryl Clay, 48, charged with theft of firearm, felon in possession of weapon
A handyman hired to do a bathroom remodeling job in a man’s northwest Bexar County home is accused of stealing from him.
The homeowner contacted the Grey Forest Police Department on Nov. 5 saying that he knew Darryl Clay, 48, from a previous job that he did for him, and rehired him for the bathroom remodel.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the homeowner told officers that his girlfriend had returned home the previous day and noticed that a watch was missing from her bedroom vanity.
The homeowner said that he later discovered his handgun also was missing, the affidavit stated.
The man told police Clay and another man had been inside his home for the remodeling job on Nov. 4, and that Clay did not show up for work the next day, the affidavit stated.
Investigators said they found online records showing Clay had pawned the stolen watch and one other, the affidavit stated.
He was arrested Monday on charges of theft, theft of a firearm and felon in possession of a weapon.
