Man dies in Live Oak house fire

Cause of fire still under investigation

Authorities said a 56-year-old man was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning.

The fire happened in the 7500 block of Wishing Oaks around 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters from Selma, Schertz, and Live Oak all responded to the fire, but at this time the cause of the fire has not been determined.

The brother of the victim was burned and transported to SAMM-C. Two other family members were also taken to Methodist Hospital, but they were treated and released.

Neighbors said it was a chaotic night.

"The mother was running around stating that there were still people inside, with the fire and the smoke, there wasn't much anybody could do, we just had to wait for the rescue teams to get here," said Ray Staten, who lives across the street.

The home is a total loss.
