Local animal shelter seeking foster families for holiday season
Help animals this holiday season by helping them find a "forever home"
SAN ANTONIO - A local animal shelter is seeking foster families this holiday season to host dogs and cats until they find a forever home.
San Antonio Pets Alive!, a nonprofit dedicated to making San Antonio a "no kill" city, said Wednesday it is looking for new foster families to take home a dog or a cat for Thanksgiving weekend and beyond.
"We're definitely at capacity, and we have even more animals that need a precious space inside the shelter, so any foster families that can help, would directly save another life," said Claire Joscelyne, the live release manager at Paul Jolly Center For Pet Adoption.
Dr. Ellen Jefferson, the executive director of San Antonio Pets Alive, wrote "We'd like for every kennel to be empty on Thanksgiving Day because that means that every pet, who was planning to spend the day in a concrete or metal cage, is instead spending their day in a warm, loving home, getting the attention he or she deserves."
Foster family responsibilities include:
- Providing a safe, clean and caring environment
- Providing food, water, litter, toys and shelter
- Providing exercise and socialization as appropriate
- Monitoring any medical or behavioral problems
- Transporting to and from veterinarian appointments, if necessary
- Transporting to and from San Antonio Pets Alive! Facilities as needed
To become a foster with San Antonio Pets Alive!, an online application must be filled before pick up. To access the application, visit http://www.sanantoniopetsalive.org/foster.
