Winter weather advisory issued for late Thursday night

Advisory goes into effect midnight for Hill Country, parts of South Central Texas


A winter weather advisory will go into effect starting at midnight for the Hill Country and the northern sections of South Central Texas due the chance of freezing rain.

According to the National Weather Service, the he winter weather advisory will remain in effect through noon on Friday.

There will continue to be a chance rain mixed with freezing rain and sleet across the Hill Country and much of South Central Texas late Friday night through Sunday morning.

Light accumulations of freezing rain on bridges and overpasses along with rural roads will make for dangerous driving conditions over the next few days.

In metro San Antonio, there is a chance for showers throughout the day Thursday.

Temperatures will gradually drop throughout the day as a major blast of arctic air will enter the region in the wake of a strong cold front.

KSAT Weather Authority Meteorologist Mike Osterhage expects temperatures to dip to around 37 by 10 p.m. Thursday.

Mike says Friday's high will only reach around 40 with a low in the mid 30s.
