Locals sound off on Mack Brown departure
Some upset to see Brown leave
SAN ANTONIO - University of Texas head Coach Mack brown has decided he will step down. The Alamo bowl against Oregon on Dec. 30 will be the last time the coach is on the UT sidelines.
Local fans immediately began to wonder who would replace the 16-year coach.
“It’s probably time for some new blood. Get somebody in there with a little more energy,” said fan Otto Herod.
Others were upset to hear that it would be the end of an era for UT football.
"It’s just kind of sad to see a legend and somebody of his caliber leave,” said Karen Payne.
Salvador Mercado, a UT alum, was just in Austin last night. He was attending a banquet for the seniors on the football team. Mercado knew there would be changes, but didn’t think the changes would Include Brown.
“I thought he was going to stick around for a couple more years, maybe change some of his assistants,” said Mercado.
Like most fans though, most are hopeful the news doesn’t affect recruits or have impact on their winning ways.
