Man runs onto San Antonio airport runway, disrupts flights

SAPD: Suspect ran to airport after being involved in accident on Wurzbach Parkway

Several flights were disrupted at San Antonio International Airport Friday morning after police said a man ran onto the runway.

San Antonio police responded to the incident around 3 a.m. SAPD officers said the man was apparently involved in a car accident on Wurzbach Parkway, then fled the scene and jumped over the airport fence.

Airport officials were forced to halt air traffic for nearly 15 minutes while police searched for the man with SAPD's Blue Eagle Helicopter.

The man was eventually spotted laying down next to a building and taken into custody. Police said he could face several charges including evading on foot and trespassing on airport property.
