South Bexar County home destroyed in fire

Investigators working to determine cause

Fire crews in South Bexar County were initially called out to a vehicle fire at the 1500 block of Black Powder, but when they got there, they found a car and a house engulfed in flames.

The fire broke out just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire Chief A.J. Castillo with District 2 Fire & Rescue said when they got to the scene, they had to attack the fire right away.

"As the fire was brought under control, we switched our modes of operation to offensive," said Castillo. "We went inside and knocked the remainder of the fire down and also completed a primary search."

No one was in the house at the time, but Castillo said there were pets killed in the fire.

Neighbors said a couple lived in the mobile home and as of Tuesday night, crews were working to get in contact with them, to get them some assistance through the Red Cross.

The building is a total loss.

Castillo said the fire appears to have started inside the mobile home, but arson investigators were on the scene on Tuesday night and they are expected to take a closer look during the day on Wednesday.
