Brooks City Base opens new medical complex

Complex offers variety of practices

SAN ANTONIO - A new medical complex at Brooks City Base will offer first-class medical care.

District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran was on hand Friday for a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

The complex a variety of practices, including ENT Clinic of San Antonio and Oncology of San Antonio.

Brooks City Base President Leo Gomez said this is another step in converting the former Air Force base into a vibrant South San Antonio community.

"When the base shut down, we lost 2,700 jobs, but we have now created over 300 jobs in the same footprint and still growing. (We) still have 750 acres to develop and all kinds of exciting things have already happened. We're really excited about the future," said Gomez.

The ceremony follows the recent announcement by the University of the Incarnate Word that it intends to locate its new school of osteopathic medicine on the Brooks City Base campus.
