Beaumont, TX - A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department Thursday said a man who is a suspect in the shooting death of his wife was found dead from an apparent suicide.

Wallis Mendoza was the prime suspect in the death of his wife Milka Talavera. An autopsy on the mother of three indicated her death was a homicide.

Mendoza claimed his wife committed suicide.

In May, police responded to a reported suicide at a home in the 2700 block of 9th Street. Police found Milka Talavera dead in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.

Talavera's husband said he called 911 after finding his wife. He broke down in tears when he spoke to 12News shortly after his wife's death. He said he loved his wife very much, and that he did not kill her. However, investigators said they did not believe he was being truthful.
