Castro will deliver a speech at the NAHJ's Hall of Fame gala at the Marriott Rivercenter. The gala is scheduled for Saturday, on the last day of the NAHJ's three-day convention in San Antonio.

The former San Antonio mayor will join more than 1,000 journalists to discuss a number of issues, including the influx of unaccompanied children on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Castro's twin brother, U.S. Rep. Joaquín Castro, will also speak at the convention. On Thursday, he will discuss the legislative and policy implications of the current immigration debate.

The NAHJ conference will also include a discussion with leading media executives on diversity in the media, a news management training program, a look at investigative journalism techniques, and the growth of Spanish-language media.
