Bob McNair receives clean bill of health after 10-month cancer battle

Bob-McNair

HOUSTON - Houston Texans owner Bob McNair is on the road to recovery from a personal health scare.

Appearing with a shaved head, McNair addressed the media Thursday afternoon, saying he has battled an aggressive form of skin cell cancer since last fall.

For six weeks, he said he underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments to combat the skin cancer.

"My skin has been abused by the sun... over the last 20 years," he said. "I guess the message is you need to wear sunscreen."

McNair said years ago he was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, an illness which requires no therapy or medication, but weakens his body's immune system.

When the skin cancer was found last fall, McNair said it was more aggressive because of his compromised immune system.

Earlier this week, McNair received a clean bill of health from his team of doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

McNair said he plans to continue forward in his role as CEO of the Texans and that he plans on winning Super Bowls.

He praised Dr. Michael Keating and the medical team at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, as well as his son, other members of the Texans front office and new head coach Bill O'Brien.

The owner also referred to the Texans players as "my teammates" and said he appreciated their support.

"We won this other battle, now we need to go win this battle on the football field," he said.
