Journalist held captive in Syria arrives in US

Peter Theo Curtis freed by Syrian extremist group

BOSTON - American journalist Peter Theo Curtis is back in the United States after being freed by an extremist group in Syria.

A family statement says Curtis arrived on a flight from Tel Aviv to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Tuesday.

He was later reunited with his mother Nancy Curtis at Boston Logan International Airport.

The statement says Curtis has been "touched and moved" by his warm reception and is "deeply indebted" to officials who worked to get him released.
