Floresville ISD superintendent criticized over party with condoms, feminine products

District's purchase of buses also questioned

FLORESVILLE, Texas - The Floresville ISD superintendent and a transportation supervisor are being criticized for appearing at a party featuring condoms and tampons as party favors and for questionable bus purchases.

The party occurred in April in the Floresville ISD bus barn.

Photos sent to the KSAT 12 Defenders by angry transportation employees show Superintendent Jerry Hunkapiller taking aim at a pinata.

What spills out of the piñata: condoms, tampons and other items of a sexual nature.

An employee, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, emailed that this was highly offensive and extremely unprofessional.

Reached by phone while out of town, Hunkapiller had no comment on the party or the piñata.

He said the function was put on by STS, the company hired by the district to run the buses.

He would also not comment when questioned about whether his presence at the party was appropriate.

Floresville residents who saw the photos of the superintendent and the goodies from the piñata had plenty of comments.

All said the school superintendent should not have been at a party that made his bus drivers uncomfortable.

"Deplorable,” Sue Machost said. “It's awful. I think he should be fired."

J. R. Titus had a question of his own.

"What does it say about the moral integrity of our culture today?" Titus asked.

Employees also question why the transportation supervisor's name shows up on the titles of two buses he sold to the district.

The superintendent said Steven “Beaver” Wallace bought the buses with his own funds and then sold them to the district.

Asked if Wallace personally profited from the sale, Hunkapiller said no.

Either way, residents say there is something fishy about that sale and something definitely inappropriate about that party.
