Texas lawmakers reach deal on state budget
$3.94 million restored to fund public education
AUSTIN, Texas - The leader of Democrats in the Texas House says party members are happy with a budget deal that restores $3.93 billion to public education.
Dallas Democrat Rep. Yvonne Davis confirmed that lawmakers reached a deal Friday that clears the way for a $2 billion water fund.
Republicans and Democrats have engaged in sometimes tense negotiations over the two-year spending plan. Republicans have made the water fund a major priority, but needed Democratic votes.
Democrats wanted to restore $5.4 billion cuts to public education made in 2011.
