San Antonio Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon suffers ACL tear

Hammon suffers injury to left knee Saturday at Los Angeles

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon suffered an ACL tear to her left knee and will undergo surgery this week, team officials said.

An MRI performed Monday confirmed the injury.

Hammond sustained the injury during the second quarter of the game at the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. She was playing in her first game of the 2013 season after missing the first 10 games due to a broken middle finger suffered during training camp

Hammon will undergo surgery in San Antonio to repair the tear this week. A timetable for her return will be established once she begins her rehabilitation process, but in all likelihood will be lost for the rest of the season.

Last season, Hammon ranked second in the WNBA in total assists, 3-point field goals made average and total 3-point field goals made.
