When a laptop valued at $900 vanished from Spring Meadows Elementary, the school's technology officers began to track it down.

Stephanie Plum Christian, and her husband, Raymond Wayne Christian, have been charged with theft between $500 and $1,500.

"On every computer there is an addresses that let people in the tech world know where that device might exist on a particular network," said Judson ISD Chief Technology Officer Steve Young.

Judson ISD police and IT staff discovered it was being used outside the school's network to access the Facebook account of the 45-year-old Christian, a former Spring Meadows teacher. They were able to track down the laptop with an anti-theft tracking device called Lojack.

"I wouldn't call it surprising, you just never know," said Judson ISD Police Chief Ernie Riojas.

When police went to her home, they said they found her husband, 39-year-old Raymond Christian on the computer. He's an assistant fire chief at Converse Fire Department. Police say the laptop clearly had Judson ISD contact information on the screen.

Police said at first the couple agreed to cooperate with the investigation but then got an attorney. Both are charged with theft and out on $2,000 bond each.

"It's all about the students, and when you deprive them of the ability to learn, that's what we are here for," said Riojas.

"At the end of the day we are going to get our equipment back," said Young.

Christian left Judson ISD's Spring Meadows Elementary in July of last year. She's currently a teacher at Windcrest Elementary in the Northeast ISD. An NEISD spokeswoman said she's been placed on administrative leave until their investigation is complete, which includes taking a close look at the school's inventory. Police said the Christians failed to cooperate with them in the investigation and were eventually arrested.
